Linda has been a member of CCRW since 2018 and joined the Executive Board as 2nd VP in August of 2021. She has been married to her husband Larry for the past 45 years, moving to Washington in 2018 from California where both she and Larry were born and raised. They built their forever home overlooking the Washougal River on 35 acres, naming it Liberty Ridge. They have one son, Cameron, and his wife Tracee (also members) who are building their home on the same property, and an “adopted” son, Jacob and his wife Amelia, who live in northern Washington. They have four adorable grandchildren ranging in age from 2 to 7 years.
Linda retired in 2017 from 33 years as a public-school teacher in Central CA (High School/Intermediate school), teaching mostly US and World History, along with Academic Block subjects and AVID. She also coached swimming, soccer, and volleyball, and served as an Academic Decathlon, History Day, and Mock Trial Coach for many years, regularly taking her students to national level History Day and Mock Trial competitions.
In between teaching stints, she also earned her BSN (Nursing) and spent time working in both Critical Care and ED settings. After returning to the classroom, Linda earned an MA in History and continues her love for history-related endeavors by helping her husband with completion of their private “barn-museum” consisting of numerous themed rooms full of period antiques: a 1950s barber shop, 1930s soda fountain, military pavilion, 1930s movie theater, late 1800s post office/bank, 1930s gas station/petrolinia, and numerous buggies, carriages, and old cars from the late 1800s to the 1980s. Together, they also manage a charitable military foundation (The MG Ronald H. Markarian Charitable Foundation) dedicated to helping veterans and veteran’s groups in need of funding.
Linda also spends time teaching a ladies’ Bible study group bi-monthly and is very active in their small non-denominational church. Serving the Lord is one of her greatest privileges and her conservative outlook on life is patterned after her faith in God and the Bible. She loves the outdoors, spending time traveling to new destinations, creating memories with her grandkids, making up and recording “gamma stories,” playing any kind of card or board games, and hanging out with Larry. Linda also loves to write and read about history and politics. You can read her monthly articles in the CCRW Newsletter.
